My Grandmother Kjarum picked me up & put me on her knee when I was five years old & taught me how to knit. With her love, she put me on the learning curve which I frequently fall off, but have never abandoned & it has kept growing & growing these last few years.
Grandma Kjarum taught me to knit the English right-hand ‘throwing method’. When I was in my very early thirties, I found Elizabeth Zimmerman’s ‘Knitting Without Tears’ which taught me the Continental left-handed ‘picking method’ & my knitting totally took off. A few years later my husband, Jon & I were living in St. Peter MN. I was working at Mary Lue’s Yarn Shop, which was owned by the Brinker family. Daughter Peggy was managing the shop & needed a knitting teacher & somehow persuaded me to be that knitting teacher. I was terrified but put together my first class, which was a nine-patch sampler lap robe created over a two month period. It begins with knit stitch, includes cabling & ends with bobbles. It was so exciting & satisfying to see them so very tentative at first & then becoming confident enough that a few of them were actually knitting socks while completing their lap robes!
I haven’t taught knitting lately but have been creating with Wellspring Wool of our Icelandic sheep,
which is always exciting if not challenging at times! Our sheep are absolutely totally incredible & have shown me much wisdom! Once they are on our land, they do not leave. They are safe here & have shown me in many ways they know. I consider their wool to be vegan.
Everything I make is inspired by them & incorporates their wonderful wool. Many have shared they can feel their incredible energy in the wool!
I am planning on reopening my Etsy shop by May 1, 2025. I am planning on having my ‘Mustard Seed’ pendants,’Wellspring Mug Rugs’ in the shop as well as my hand-knotted ‘created to order’ Meditation Malas.
I will have an official announcement on this site as well as in my newsletter. I hope you will stop by! If there's anything that you would particularly like to have, please reach out to me!
