Wellspring Breath began on March 20 through June 20 of 2023, when I was in the virtual program The Sound Healers Academy (TSHA), which was an unbelievably rigorous experience for me. If I had known what was in store, I’m not sure I would have gone through with it, but I am so grateful I did! It was not a ‘planned expedition’ that I embarked on, but it turned out to be another Game Changer & once again, my life evolved in a huge way.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then I believe this short video is the perfect way for me to introduce you to a bit of what I do in my sessions & where I started with Wellspring Breath.
❣️❣️Thank you, thank you, Terry Eldh❣️❣️
❣️❣️I would not be where I am without you❣️❣️
It is my introduction for my TSHA Final Exam video & I hope you like it!
P.S. The meditation I reference in the video is my ‘Right Here. Right Now.’ session meditation experience. I have no plans to edit or remove it. After the session this Tuesday, I shared my real life experience that inspired it. They ‘got it’! It was that powerful❣️
Wellspring Kitchen is the spot for all things related to nourishing ourselves & our loved ones, whether it is preparing food, gardening, herbs, body care …. It will all be in this space! I welcome positive feedback & ideas! I also love to research & try new things, so if there is anything in the plant-based vegan world you would like to learn about, please reach out!
I am having great fun playing with our fairly new Harvestright Freeze Dryer and posting about my food adventures on FaceBook. It has been lovely receiving positive feedback from friends as well as others I do not know - at least not yet! - and be able to share my culinary explorations.
I posted my Loaded Fruit Salad on Facebook recently & received wonderful feedback! This fruit salad has been a game changer for me, as it is so easy & takes less than a half hour for a whole week of YumYum! It is that good and as it takes little time, I look forward to the scant half hour it takes! I thought it would be a great start for our new adventure! I hope you enjoy it!

1 grapefruit, local apple & 2 small tangerines, all organic
Wash well, remove grapefruit & tangerine skins, core apple & cut into smallish (or whatever size you like) pieces. Put all into a biggish bowl! I also ‘smoosh’ the grapefruit to get some juice!
Now I get out all of the add-ins, such as:
Dried coconut (shreds & sometimes large flakes) & walnuts (crumbled a bit)
Dried fruit: pineapple, prunes, gogi & mulberry (if they’re too big I cut them with kitchen scissors)
Seeds: sprouted chia, flax & hemp
I sprinkle coconut flakes over all till I think ‘enough’, cut up dried fruit & measure heaping tablespoons of seeds, so there is really little measuring! When it’s all mixed up, I pour enough kombucha in so it’s kinda soupy as the dried fruit will soak up a bit of the liquid & I like moist!
Use any fresh fruits (probably not bananas), dried fruits, seeds & nuts you like!
Any juice could sub for kombucha. I love kombucha for its taste & healthy benefits! And its Fizz!
FYI. I will be exploring easy, efficient methods of removing skin from grapefruit!
I would love to hear about yours!
I keep our own mixed coconut sugar & cinnamon mix on hand to sprinkle on more goodness!
Wellspring Woolens really began when my Grandma Kjarum put me on her knee when I was five years old & taught me to knit! Grandma put me on the learning curve which I frequently fall off of & get back on as soon as I can! The wonderful thing about knitting is that when you’ve ripped something out, you have given yourself more experience! I am eternally grateful Grandma gave me the gift of knitting which turned out to define my life❣️
There have been many steps along the way that I hope to share with you in upcoming issues!
I am writing this from our kitchen counter on Singing Aspen Farm, a dream which has been an incredible blessing & is always evolving!
In 1997, Jon & I went to the Minnesota State Fair thinking it was just another day!
It turned out to be a total life changing day, which would bring a small flock of incredibly wonderful Icelandic sheep along with the huge adventure of building our small but beloved, Singing Aspen Farm!
I call myself an aspiring fiber artist! Here are a few examples of my work:

The pillow features the Joy Rune symbol!

This vest was woven as part of a grant I received!
The Icelandics inspire me & their wool is my major medium. With their wool, I knit, felt, spin, embroider, nalbind, weave & dye! Everything starts with the flock & their wool! I also make jewelry with stainless steel as my metal as it is relatively ‘green’, ‘no care’ & hypoallergenic. I have an Etsy shop which has been on ‘vacation’. I am hoping to reopen the shop within the next month or so. I would love to hear about anything you might like to see there! My mission is to create meaningful items which enrich our lives & homes with meaning & connection!
Charlie Leftridge, Executive Director of the Carnegie Art Center in Mankato MN (and a dear friend) has the dubious ‘honor’ of being the first selected for this section of ‘Living a Wellspring...'!
Charlie invited me to hold my Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowl sessions there last summer!! I held my first session on August 6th & it continues to be an honor as well as a pleasure to hold my sessions in such an incredible space with its lovely acoustics & good energy! We hope soon to fill the space so many more can enjoy all the blessings that are at the former Carnegie Library!!
The Carnegie Art Center is such a welcoming place for so many & Charlie is doing a wonderful job of offering more unique programs with much diversity for all age groups! For example, LIVE at the Carnegie is curated by Liz Draper, an accomplished musician (to say the least) & is truly a not to be missed event! Please check out the other singular experiences that are being offered, as in book readings, original ‘making’ classes ... at carnegiemankato.org!
When we donate to the Carnegie, Jon & I know we are supporting a local, grassroots community that is doing good work ‘on the ground’!
I considered a number of alternatives for the start of 2025; “Intention, creation, connection…” but focused stood out as a word that carried a sense of action and forward momentum that I’m looking for in this coming year.
Thank you so much for being part of this journey.
Whether you’re joining us for meditation, exploring plant-based recipes, or curious about the woolen art inspired by our flock, I’m so glad we get to share these moments together.
I’d love to hear from you—feel free to reply with questions, ideas, or just to say hello. And if you haven’t already, follow along on Facebook or Instagram for even more updates.
Until next time,
Warmly,
Melinda Kjarum

Founder of Wellspring Woolens
Melinda Kjarum is the heart and visionary behind Wellspring Woolens. Her journey began with a life-changing encounter in 1997 at the Minnesota State Fair, where a single Icelandic ram sparked an unexpected path toward sustainable farming, handcrafted woolens, and holistic wellness.
Rooted in resilience—she rebuilt her life and home after a devastating tornado swept Southern Minnesota—Melinda’s approach weaves together mindful living, natural materials, veg based recipes, and the gentle but energizing tones of singing bowls.
Through Wellspring Breath, Kitchen, and Woolens, she shares not only products but also a philosophy of stewardship, community, and authenticity. Melinda’s work invites you to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience a bit more of everyday life.
